About The Exhibition: Oct 6 – Nov 8, 2024
Islam & Print presents HEIRLOOM featuring the work of 2024 artist fellows Hoor Imad Sherpao, Madyha Leghari, and Mina Sarfaraz. The exhibition is curated by Islam & Print co-founders Dan Flounders and Safiyah Cheatam, and will be held at Gallery CA with an opening reception on Friday, October 4 at 6–9 p.m. and on view through November 8, 2024.

What are the things we pass down through generations? For the 2024 Islam & Print cohort, it's a 14th-century marriage certificate, folktales of heaven and hell, and one’s mother tongue. Precious and sacred, we cling to memories of the past to have a relationship with our ancestors and maintain our connections to cultural heritage, land, and so much more.  In Heirloom, Hoor Imad Sherpao, Madyha Leghari, and Mina Sarfaraz act as either the receiver or giver of traditions, and sometimes both.

Hoor, a self-proclaimed “collector of skills,” uses an evolved Neo-Indo-Persian Miniature style of painting and sculpture that embraces the traditional golds and porcelain materials of the classical style. Madyha’s conceptual storytelling and literalism weaves their way into experimental video, illustration, and interactive art. Mina’s embrace of the natural world is incorporated in her textile and sculptural work. This multimedia exhibition will showcase skills across artistic genres that amplify the work of Muslim artists with various expressions of Islam?
